Project Solution | Silver Shield™
Needed to improve energy efficiency of existing homes to help low-income residents lower the cost of their utility bills. Project Solution: In May 2011, Housing Authority of the City of Charleston was honored with the US Green Building Council’s Leadership Award for their efforts in not only envisioning a sustainable community, but establishing a monitoring program to measure the results. This helped the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston prioritize which energy-saving elements, such as Radiant Barriers, should be incorporated into future building and maintenance programs.
Although they were originally looking at a sheet-type radiant barrier, Gale Insulation of Ladson, SC was able to upgrade the specifier and the housing authority personnel into FI-FOIL® advanced multi-layer radiant barrier – Silver Shield™. Silver Shield™ Radiant Barrier reflects and reduces the emittance of radiant energy by 97%. It’s unique multi-layer design reduces heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. It is specifically designed to help boost the performance of the existing home’s insulation system to control temperatures, resulting in lower utility bills, energy savings and improved comfort.
